Episode 7: Podcast Recap
Something that is always a hot topic in the world of art education is choices and differentiation in the art room. Our initial thoughts when we hear this are a choice based classroom or a TAB classroom. To us, that isn’t our ideal classroom but we have co workers who’s classrooms thrive in that environment.
Although we don’t do an entirely choice based classroom, we do enjoy giving our students choices. If you don’t often give students choices and feel overwhelmed, start small. We often do this with younger kids or the beginning of the year until we really know our classes and/or students. It can be as simple as picking a color of paper or choosing between crayons or markers to color something in.
As students get older and their skills develop, we like to give them more choices and more freedom in what they are doing which really allows their artistic style to flourish.
Keep blending,
